A Guide to Buying a New 3D HDTV

It’s the next big thing – 3D HDTV, and you can have it in your home theater now! But you have to know what to buy. If you don’t add the right components to your home theater, you won’t be able to watch in 3D.

We all know that movies in 3D have come a long way since way back when your parents watched some poorly made spine-tingler wearing those red and blue 3D glasses. These days, 3D is better, clearer and much more fun, and the new crop of movies in 3D make for some excellent and entertaining viewing. So if you and your family and friends are into movies, it truly makes sense to add 3D to your home theater.

The first thing you need is a TV that works with 3D. The high-definition TVs that have come out in the past few years may or may not be able to do that. You need a new version of HDTV to be able to watch in 3D.

As for glasses, they may come included with your purchase of a new 3D HDTV, but you might want to purchase additional sets depending on how many viewers you expect at once.

Next, you’ll need a new HDMI cable, HDMI 1.4. This cable connects your TV to your cable box or blu-ray player. And you’ll also need a blu-ray player that’s capable of decoding the 3D digits on the blu-ray discs.

You might be wondering if you can watch 3D on either an LCD or plasma TV. Yes, you can, but plasma is thought to be better for viewing in 3D because the plasma TV is better at producing displays speed-wise and contrast-wise.

In terms of contrast, plasma TVs nearly always have a bigger contrast ratio than LCD TVs, and this is significant for 3D viewing. This is because when there’s a big visual difference between black and white, the level of picture quality is perceived as higher.

Plasma screen TVs are able to go completely black, but LCD TVs aren’t able to do that, because of the backlighting that’s always on, sometimes allowing tiny bits of light to leak through to the screen, leading to a lower contrast ratio.

So if you want to watch 3D at home, you may need to do some upgrading. There’s no way around it, but you’ll love the results. Imagine being able to watch movies in stunning 3D, in the comfort of your own home! What a great way to entertain your family and guests!

Whether you choose a plasma screen TV or an LCD TV, you’ll enjoy excellent high definition picture quality when viewing 3D movies, and video games or over-the-air programs that are currently in development.

New technology is exciting isn’t it? It’s fun to bring the excitement of high definition and 3D into your home, and the best part is that you’re upgrading to technology that you’ll happily use and enjoy for years to come!
